Selling subscription and membership products

Set up recurring billing for memberships, courses, and services.

Subscriptions let you charge customers on a recurring schedule instead of a one-time fee. They're ideal for memberships, communities, software access, and any product that delivers ongoing value.

Note

Recurring billing requires a connected Stripe account. PayPal supports subscriptions in select regions — check the Payments settings for availability.

Create a subscription product

  1. 1Go to Products and select New product, then choose Subscription as the type.
  2. 2Name the subscription and describe what members get access to.
  3. 3Set the recurring price and choose a billing interval — weekly, monthly, or yearly.
  4. 4Optionally add a free trial period or a one-time setup fee.

Choosing billing intervals

  • Monthly billing lowers the entry barrier and is easiest for customers to commit to.
  • Yearly billing improves cash flow and retention — offer a discount versus paying monthly.
  • You can publish multiple plans for the same product so customers pick what suits them.

Tip

Pricing the yearly plan at roughly 10 months' worth of the monthly price is a common, effective way to push customers toward annual billing.

Managing subscribers

Active subscribers appear under Orders & Customers. From there you can view each subscriber's status, pause or cancel a subscription, and see upcoming renewal dates. Customers can also manage their own subscriptions from the customer portal link in their receipt.

Handling failed renewals

When a renewal payment fails, Bitsellfy automatically retries the charge over several days and emails the customer to update their card. If all retries fail, the subscription is marked past due and access can be revoked automatically.

Important

By default, a cancelled subscriber keeps access until the end of their paid period. Review your access rules so customers aren't cut off early.

Next steps

Once your subscription is live, set up dunning emails for failed payments and consider a free trial to lower the barrier to signing up.
